LightFM

LightFM live from San Francisco.

I’ve been experimenting with swapping my iPhone for a Light Phone. It’s been the inspiration behind a few apps I’ve built in the quest to make something I’d love enough to replace my iPhone.

Instead of just building a Spotify app for Light Phone, I decided to start with a radio tuner. LightFM is inspired by the kind of FM radio you’d find in a Sony walkman from the 90s.

I took advantage of the dial in the Light Phone, which is normally used to change brightness, as the main control for tuning frequencies. Since the Light Phone doesn’t have a radio antenna, the app uses the internet to tune to the frequencies that would be available in your area.
